Victorian bathroom design

A typical Victorian bathroom usually included a cast iron tub often with a shower enclosure, a freestanding sink with hot and cold water, a water closet (toilet) and sometimes, a bidet.  Today you can get the same Victorian lookbut made with alternative modern materials to increase efficiency and reliability.

Victorian bathroom designs often incorporated ornate wall tiles and mosaic designs on the floors.  Toilets and baths were often clad in wooden panelling.  In fact the cisterns and other bathroom fittings were often made from wood and lined with lead where necessary.

These designs and innovations were possible as a result of the industrial revolution.  During Victorian times many families were able to throw out their chamber pots and improve their quality of living with a fully fitted bathroom.  Today their innovative designs remain popular and are still widely available new, from second had dealers or reclamation companies.
