The advantage of fitted bathroom furniture over freestanding or modular is the storage space you gain.  With fitted furniture you should have space for all your bathroom bits, leaving the room clutter free.

So the advantages are clear, you have somewhere to store all that stuff and it utilises more of your bathroom space.  The downsides are it can be quite expensive.  Companies such as Mereway or Utopia offer designer fitted furniture that achieves a modern look, but cheaper do it yourself units can often look a bit dull.

Finally fitted furniture may utilise space but it also fills a lot of space.  So in a smaller bathroom it may feel a bit oppressive and it's certainly not the choice of the minimalist.
