Bathroom taps

Bathroom taps are essential within a bathroom for obvious reasons, but there are plenty of choices to make them stylish as well as practical.

If you are not replacing your sink or basin then the first thing to check is where the holes are for the taps.  As you can buy taps as a pair or in a single mixer, but if you already have two holes it will probably be easy to stick with individual hot and cold taps.  In short individual hot and cold taps stand side by side but one provides hot water and the other cold water.  Whereas a mixer tap has two tap heads but only one spout, so the hot and cold water is mixed together.  The mixer only requires a single hole usually in the middle.

However it is possible to seperate the taps from the sink entirely.  Instead mounting them beside the basin on a plinth or unit, or wall mounted above the basin.  There are of course a baffling range of designs, but usually once you have decided on a bathroom suite or sink there are a limited range of taps to match.

The crosshead tap is perhaps the most classic of designs and falls in to the traditional design camp, as do most of the common chrome and brass designs.  Contemporary taps usually defy the expected tap shapes, with flat pipes instead of tubular with sleek and elegant lines.

The only other bathroom taps to consider are on the bath.  You would normally continue the design theme of your sink taps, but with a bath ther is the added option of a handset shower.  These often create a very stylish and elaborate look and worth considering even if you have no plans to use it regularly.
